Green Schools

Green School Assessment!

Our school had a Green School Assessment visit on Monday, 10th February. Dr. Mary Stack from Cork County Council arrived to monitor our progress and to see if we had carried out all the necessary work to achieve our first Green Flag!

It was an exciting day for all the school! At our Assembly, Dr. Stack presented the pupils from Junior Infants to 6th with their 'You're an Eco-Star!' Certificates. This is a school certificate which recognises the efforts of an individual child in each class in helping to reduce litter and waste in his / her own classroom. Next came the presentation of the 'Golden Bin' award! This is a much coveted award presented to the class which has made the best effort that week in reducing litter and waste. We were delighted that Dr. Stack was there to present these awards. We also sang our 'Green School Song' which was written by Cathal in 4th Class.

After Assembly, Dr. Stack met with The Green School Committee and Mrs. Horgan in the hall. She asked them lots of questions based on the 7 Steps and how we were implementing the programme in the school. She then inspected our noticeboards and got a tour of our school to see how we were reducing litter and waste. Jack and Thomas showed her our wormery. She seemed to be very pleased with all our hard work.

Mr. Coakley is keeping his eyes peeled for that important letter in the post which will tell us if we have been awarded a Green Flag!

Fingers crossed!!
